She’s another former Albert Square resident with a few scores to settle!

Soaplife - - News Extra -

MEL OWEN’S EXIT from Albert square in 2002 was one of the more dramatic in the soap’s history… now she’s coming back to walford in the new Year and her return promises to be just as exciting!

Mel was pregnant and on bail for charges related to her late husband steve Owen’s drug dealing when she fled to Portugal, a move which cost her one-time lover, Phil Mitchell, the £30,000 he’d put up to get her out of jail on bail.

Mel left heartbroken, having discovered that steve had been sleeping with Phil’s sister, sam, and had sold both their business and their house behind her back.

why Mel has decided to return to walford now has not been revealed, but an Eastenders source told us that Mel is ‘still classy, sassy and fierce’ and her return ‘will open old wounds’. it will also raise eyebrows… ian Beale will be stunned to see the woman he once tricked into marrying him. As for Phil… His wily wife, sharon, will be determined to assert herself as the only blonde woman in his life.

Eastenders bosses also haven’t said if Mel will bring her now 15-year-old child with her.

But tamzin Outhwaite has made no secret of her feelings about returning to the soap.

‘Eastenders is in my DNA,’ tamzin told us. ‘i always knew that someday i would revisit Mel. she’s a strong woman with lots more stories to tell.’

scary stories, too, we reckon!

Mel left Walford after the death of her treacherous husband, Steveé Mel’s return to Albert Square promises some explosive drama!
