Teacher jailed after sending naked photos to schoolgirls
A SHAMED teacher with a “sexual interest in schoolgirls” has been jailed after he was found guilty of sending naked pictures of himself to pupils.
Christopher Wood was locked up for 15 months and placed on the sex offenders’ register for ten years.
The 33- year- old, who searched online using the words “sex with teacher”, had earlier been convicted of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity while in a position of trust.
He was also found guilty of causing a child to watch a sexual act but cleared of a similar charge relating to a second youngster.
Passing sentence at Birmingham Crown Court, Judge Mark Wall told Wood that his life was in ruins.
“You have lost your good character, lost your job, your wife and the respect of people who knew you,” the judge said.
“You had a sexual interest in schoolgirls dating back to at least 2009 as you searched the internet for ‘ sex with teacher’.
“You groomed a vulnerable schoolgirl.
“Only a prison sentence can warrant what you have done,” the judge added.
Wood’s trial heard that all the charges related to his time as a teacher in Solihull at a school which cannot be named for legal reasons.
He sent a girl pupil a naked picture of himself, just his groin covered by a smiley face emoji.
He also showed pupils pornographic pictures of himself with other women, including his wife.
Wood, previously from Dorridge, but now of Tregaron in Ceredigion, Wales, worked at the school from September 2015, the court heard.
The court heard he became close to a female pupil and began to communicate with her on Snapchat, with Wood using the tag: ‘ I don’t give a f...’.
In December 2015, he sent the girl several pictures of him semi- naked and then fully exposed apart from an emoji sticker covering his genitals.
She sent an image of herself topless. Police later discovered images of schoolgirls posing with garters and ribbons on their thighs after checking his computer.
His defence team said Wood was suicidal when the matters came to light and was seeing mental health professionals.
His wife had since left him and his career as a teacher was over, the court heard.
An NSPCC spokesman said: “As a teacher, Wood held a privileged position of trust and respect – but he exploited this for his own sexual gratification.
“It is vital anyone concerned about a young person speaks out. They can contact the NSPCC helpline in confidence on 0808 800 5000 or help@ nspcc. org. uk while young people can contact Childline on 0800 1111.”
