LAKESIDE SETTING FOR MARILYN’S MARRIAGE
During her brief life Marylin Monroe was film and stage star, sex symbol, fashion icon and singer. But, despite her talents, global fame and huge fortune, by the time of her death aged just 36 in 1962 she was struggling with depression and a considerable drug habit. But there had been a brief window of happiness – on the day she married third husband, playwright Arthur Miller, in June 1956.
The marriage was over by 1961 and the couple, above, divorced, but biographers agree Marilyn was happiest at the time of their double wedding including civil and religious ceremonies, the latter which took placed at the country home of Miller’s agent, in Waccabuc, New York.
This vast and luxury French- style property, built in 1948, overlooks a lake in the suburb of Lewisboro in Westchester County and is surrounded by four acres of grounds and forest.
