Scone with the wind!
Great British Bake Off finalist Andrew makes wind turbine showstopper for npower’s world’s biggest coffee morning
THAT will do slicely....
A Bake Off star helped cook up a fundraising cake extravaganza for charity in a visit to Solihull.
Workers at the town’s npower offices were joined by 2016 Great British Bake Off finalist Andrew Smyth, who served cakes and talked all things baking.
He supported their World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event as they raised funds for their charity partner of 13 years, Macmillan Cancer Support.
Andrew baked an exclusive showstopper – a wind turbine cake – and npower employees also dusted off their aprons and baked their own cakes for the occasion – from ambitious bakes like Andrew’s to homemade favourites like a Victoria Sponge or Lemon Drizzle.
Andrew said: “Baking is a brilliant way to raise money for such an important cause like Macmillan – it’s lots of fun and is the perfect opportunity to get friends and family together.
“Cancer has a huge impact on the lives of so many people and it’s vital that Macmillan can continue to provide crucial support.
“I’m very proud to be a part of this through my passion for baking.” Beth Gardner, Head of Community at npower, said: “Our employees really rose to the occasion this year, and we’ve seen a whole range of delicious bakes.
“It’s been brilliant to have Andrew working alongside us and we hope his cake recipe inspires others – we really can change lives with every slice of cake.”
Catrin Hale, Partnership Development Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the npower employees that got involved with Coffee Morning this year.
“Having a Bake Off star in our midst has really inspired everyone to get set and bake lots of tasty treats.
“Not only has it been great fun but the funds raised will make a real difference and help Macmillan support the growing number of people living with cancer in the UK.”
Over a 13 year partnership, npower has contributed £ 10.5million to help 34,000 families affected by cancer.
npower supports Macmillan’s Energy Advice Team who offer guidance and help source funding for people living with cancer who are struggling to keep warm, regardless of who supplies their energy.
It also help customers through npower’s Macmillan Fund, which supports people living with cancer by capping energy bills and writing off debt.
