Ex- dogs home boss is charged with fraud

THE for­mer boss of Birm­ing­ham Dogs Home has been charged with fraud fol­low­ing a year­long po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tion into al­le­ga­tions of miss­ing do­na­tions.

Si­mon Price, 53, of Somer­ton Drive, Marston Green, was ini­tially ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of theft. The char­ity’s for- mer chief ex­ec­u­tive has been charged with 11 of­fences of fraud by abuse of po­si­tion, and one money laun­der­ing of­fence, be­tween 2012 and 2016.

His wife, Alayna, 38, and of the same ad­dress, who was pre­vi­ously com­mer­cial man­ager at the char­ity, has been charged with six of­fences of fraud by abuse of po­si­tion and one money laun­der­ing of­fence be­tween the same dates.

The pair will ap­pear at Birm­ing­ham Mag­is­trates Court on Novem­ber 1.

West Midlands Po­lice have been in­ves­ti­gat­ing the case since Mr Price was ar­rested last Novem­ber and the case was passed to the Crown Pros­e­cu­tion Ser­vice for re­view in Septem­ber.

In Au­gust the char­ity ap­pointed a new chief ex­ec­u­tive, Giles Web­ber.

Birm­ing­ham Dogs Home res­cues and re­homes dogs across the re­gion.
