Two men are charged over the mur­der of a ‘ lov­ing dad’

TWO Soli­hull men have been charged with the mur­der of a “lov­ing dad” who was killed in Wolver­hamp­ton.

Richard Helm, 37, was stabbed to death in the early hours of Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 12, in Raven Cre­sent, Ash­more Park.

The fa­ther- of- four was found dead with knife wounds near to a burn­ing car shortly af­ter 5.15am.

He was dis­cov­ered by po­lice offic- ers who were sent to re­ports of trou­ble in the road.

The first man to be charged is Danny Cooper, 31, of Maytree Close, Chelm­s­ley Wood, who was ar­rested on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 21.

He ap­peared at Wal­sall Mag­is­trates Court on Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 24. He also is also charged with two counts of as­sault, two counts of crim­i­nal dam­age and ar­son.

The sec­ond man, Ash­ley Wil­son, 27, of Guernsey Drive, Soli­hull, was ar­rested on Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 24, and charged with mur­der.

He is also charged with two counts of crim­i­nal dam­age and ar­son.

De­tec­tive In­spec­tor Jim Col­clough, from the homi­cide team, said: “This is such a tragic waste of a life. Our thoughts re­main with Richard’s fam­ily.”

Mr Helm’s fam­ily paid a heart­break­ing trib­ute to him in the days af­ter his death.

Re­leased via West Mid­lands Po­lice, the fam­ily said: “Richard was a lov­ing son, hus­band and fa­ther to four young chil­dren. He has been taken from us too soon.”
