Novem­ber 10: Cardiff’s Christ­mas lights are switched on, but there is no tree in place.

Novem­ber 17: Cardiff coun­cil prom­ises that when its tree is un­veiled, it would be a spec­tac­u­lar, 40m-tall struc­ture.

Novem­ber 26: The ar­ti­fi­cial tree is un­veiled. It is about 40ft, rather than 40m tall.

Novem­ber 27: The coun­cil apol­o­gises for the con­fu­sion about how tall it would be.

De­cem­ber 15: Cardiff coun­cil says it had con­tacted sup­plier MK Il­lu­mi­na­tion af­ter the tree’s baubles be­gan peel­ing.

Jan­uary 10: The tree is re­moved and stored by MK Il­lu­mi­na­tion be­fore it is used again for the 2017 cel­e­bra­tions.
