YOURS 5k race will raise cash for hospice

GE­ORGE Thomas Hospice Care, Cardiff’s lo­cal hospice, has set its sights high with its an­nual fun run, the Bay 5K.

Fol­low­ing the suc­cess of last year, 2017’s fun run, on March 12, will re­turn to Cardiff Bay and is be­ing spon­sored by West­ern Power Dis­tri­bu­tion.

Nicky Piper, the char­ity’s event or­gan­iser said: “We need to raise money to keep our nurses on the road this year, vis­it­ing pa­tients in their own homes across Cardiff.

“Last year we made 8,293 vis­its to pa­tients at home and we ex­pect the de­mand for our ser­vices to in­crease over the next 12 months.

The fun run is open to run­ners of all ages and is £10 to en­ter.

The char­ity has set it­self an am­bi­tious tar­get of 500 run­ners and will ask par­tic­i­pants to raise spon­sor­ship for their ef­forts.

Chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer of Ge­orge Thomas Hospice Care, Mike Walsh, who will run again this year, said: “It is such a beau­ti­fully scenic run that, in my opin­ion, stands out from all oth­ers. This year we will also be hav­ing live mu­sic and stalls to en­ter­tain run­ners so I hope lots of peo­ple will support us.”
