Sup­port of­fered af­ter girl’s death

HIGH school pupils are be­ing of­fered coun­selling af­ter the sudden death of a 16-year-old girl.

Staff and pupils at Bryn­teg Com­pre­hen­sive School in Brid­gend were spo­ken to fol­low­ing the death of the Year 12 pupil, who was from the Brackla area of the town, on Wed­nes­day.

South Wales Po­lice con­firmed they are in­ves­ti­gat­ing, but said the death is not be­ing treated as sus­pi­cious.

Head teacher David Jenk­ins said: “We re­cently learned that one of our Year 12 pupils has sadly passed away.

“Bryn­teg has al­ways been a strong, close-knit com­mu­nity, and a range of ser­vices, in­clud­ing school-based coun­selling, has been put in place to sup­port and as­sist our pupils.

“Nat­u­rally, our thoughts are with the fam­ily and friends de­ceased at this sad time.”

A po­lice spokes­woman said: “South Wales Po­lice is in­ves­ti­gat­ing the sudden death of a 16-year-old of the girl from the Brackla area.

“The death is not be­ing treated as sus­pi­cious and a file of ev­i­dence is be­ing pre­pared for the HM Coro­ner.”
