IT’S always a good day at the office for interior designers and builders when clients and homeowners are over the moon with their services.

But a Welsh interior design and building firm will be on cloud nine today after picking up a national award yesterday for its designer kitchen with a runway breakfast bar overlooking Penarth Marina.

Project One, based in Penarth, were awarded the top industry award at the Master Builder Awards 2017 at a ceremony in London yesterday for its work on a kitchen renovation.

Nick Knowles, TV presenter and building enthusiast, handed the best kitchen or bathroom award to the company at The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) event.

The award was for its work on a luxurious townhouse overlooking Penarth Marina.

“The installation works brilliantly, through a variety of different design elements, to give a sense of flow and movement, reflecting the ebb and flow of the harbour”, said Brian Berry, chief executive of the FMB.

“This is enhanced by the sevenzone lighting system which is an innovative way of creating separate spaces to suit different moods.”

Project One designed and installed a contemporary and sleek lifestyle kitchen, complete with a show-stopping runway breakfast bar, designed to draw the eye towards the fantastic view of the harbour. Thrilled with their kitchen, clients Simon and Allun explained that Project One turned the initial brief on its head.

The main reason for the redesign was so that they could make the most of the beautiful harbour view.

Instead of carrying out an attic bedroom conversion as originally planned, Project One recommended completely modifying the middle floor, moving the kitchen away from the street side of the building and taking down all the interconnecting walls to maximise light and create more space.

It has given Simon and Allun a greater opportunity to enjoy the view in the room they spend most of their time in.

The Master Builder Awards, now in its 13th year, is a nationwide search by the FMB to find the best builders in Britain, taking into account builders’ technical ability together with their customer service skills.
