F you're go­ing to watch a show at one of the Welsh cap­i­tal's theatre or con­cert halls, you might be won­der­ing where you can go to en­joy a prethe­atre meal first. And many of Cardiff's eater­ies of­fer a set menu for those who want a quick, tasty meal and drink be­fore catch­ing a show.

The cap­i­tal is lit­er­ally teem­ing with restau­rants but here are some that cater es­pe­cially for those with tick­ets to pop con­certs, a play or even the panto. Gio­vanni’s in Park Place Where: 8 Park Place, CF10 3DP Con­tact: 029 2022 6299 Open: noon-2.30pm, 5pm-11pm Mon­day to Thurs­day; noon-11pm Fri­day and Satur­days, closed Sun­days.

What do of­fer: They have a two course menu for £14.95 and you can choose things like Bianchetti Fritti (deep fried crispy white­bait) or sauteed mush­rooms in gar­lic but­ter to start and pasta, chicken, lasagne or sea bass for mains.

After the show, you can go back and fin­ish the night with cof­fee and a dessert (as long as there is room!).

There is also a Gio­vanni's on the Hayes, so it's a per­fect spot for St David's Hall or the Mo­tor­point Arena too.

What’s on of­fer: It's avail­able from 12noon-7pm and two cour­ses cost £12.95.

Start with with one of their nine choices like home­made veg­etable soup, grilled Ital­ian sausage served in a bed of stir fried cab­bage and smoked pancetta or fish cakes fol­lowed by a se­lec­tion of pas­tas, pan fried hake or rib eye of beef.

La­guna Kitchen & Bar

Where: Park Plaza Ho­tel, Greyfri­ars Road, CF 10 3AL. Con­tact: 029 2011 1103. Open: Last Or­ders in the restau­rant 9.30pm Mon­day to Thurs­day, 10pm on Fri­day and Satur­day, 9pm on Sun­day.

What’s on of­fer: It's avail­able from 5.30pm-7pm and the menu changes daily. Two cour­ses cost £15.95 and three cour­ses are £18.95.

Sam­ple dishes in­clude wild mush­room soup to start, fol­lowed by plaice gou­jons or grilled chicken supreme and then a se­lec­tion of ice-creams/ sor­bets to fin­ish.

Henry’s Cafe Bar

Where: Park Cham­bers, Park Place, CF10 3DN. Con­tact: 029 2022 4672. Open: Mon­day to Thurs­day 9am11pm; Fri­day and Satur­day 9am - 1am and Sun­day 10am - 11pm.

What’s on of­fer: There isn't a set menu to choose from but it's the per­fect place for a cock­tail be­fore the show and you tuck into any­thing from a burger to sand­wiches, a clas­sic combo sharer or roast lamb shank and a su­per­food salad. Ffresh Where: Wales Mil­len­nium Cen­tre. Con­tact: 029 2063 6465. Open: 11am-11pm daily. Closed Mondays.

What’s on of­fer: Two cour­ses for £19.50 or three for £23.50.

This is prob­a­bly the most con­ve­nient as it's just min­utes away from your seat!

Choose from perl las, orange and chicory salad or pot­ted salmon, and then move on to bream with sam­phire and leeks or potato gnocchi with peas, beans and ar­ti­chokes.

And if you have room for dessert, there is Welsh cheese, rasp­berry brulee or peach and al­mond tart.

Côte Brasserie

Where: 25 Mer­maid Quay, CF10 5BZ. Con­tact: 029 2045 3780. Open: 8am-11pm Mon­day to Fri­day; 9am-11pm Satur­day and 9am10.30pm Sun­day.

What’s on of­fer: The pre-theatre menu is served daily from 12 noon to 7pm. Two cour­ses cost £12.50 and three cour­ses are £13.95.

You can choose from a num­ber of choices to start in­clud­ing egg bene­dict, cala­mari or mack­erel ril­lettes then fol­low it up with, among other choices, plaice, chicken seabass or steak frites.

If you opt for a three-course meal, there is a dark cho­co­late pot with creme fraiche, creme caramel, iced berries, cho­co­late mousse or peach crum­ble.

What’s on of­fer: There is a set menu from 12noon-7 pm Mon­day to Fri­day which is per­fect for a meal be­fore a show. It costs £11.95 for two cour­ses or £13.95 for three.

Start with steamed as­para­gus or spiced beef kofta and then de­light in a crispy cod burger or roasted aubergine, lentil and chick­pea dahl.

If there is room and time for pud­ding, there are but­ter­milk pan­cakes or a warm cho­co­late brownie.

Jub­o­raj Big Wind­sor Where: 15 Stuart Street, CF10 5BW. Con­tact: 029 2048 1167. Open: noon-2pm, 5pm -11.30pm 7 days a week.

What’s on of­fer: It's just £9.95 for two cour­ses and if curry is your thing, you won't be dis­ap­pointed.

There's things like chicken tikka, lamb pas­sanda and chicken chat to start and karahi mixed begeta­bles, chicken kho­la­puri or lamb jal­frezi as a main.


Where: CF10 5BZ. Con­tact: 029 2049 1882. Open: Daily from 8am-11pm. What’s on of­fer: You are pretty much spoilt for choice when it comes to eating here as they cater for those with a love of Spain, Wales and Italy!

They are right op­po­site the WMC by the Oval basin so there's not far to walk

They of­fer a set menu from 12noon7pm ev­ery day, which is two cour­ses for £10.95 or three cour­ses for £15.95 but when there is a show on at the WMC, they of­fer a more ex­ten­sive menu which is two cour­ses for £15. What’s on of­fer: You get any two cour­ses or £14.95. The choice is huge from ap­pe­tis­ers like saucis­son to starters in­clud­ing porc sauce Bear­naise or tarte au chevre to mains like boeuf bour­guignon or nou­velle su­per salade and burg­ers or steak.

There are, of course, desserts and cheese too.

What’s on of­fer: There is a quick and easy din­ner menu served at the restau­rant which is a good op­tion be­fore a show.

It's £15.95 for two cour­ses and you add £3 if you fancy a dessert.

Think crispy squid and smashed av­o­cado to start or golden pork esca­lope or harissa squash salad for mains.

There is also steak for £3 more.
