Railway-themed bar applies for city centre spot

-

A NEW craft ale bar could be coming to Cardiff city centre.

Head of Steam, which is famed for its UK and world beers, has bars across northern England including Leeds, Birmingham and Newcastle and has applied for a licence in the capital.

The railway-themed bar, operated by Camerons Brewery, has applied to Cardiff council to open at 18-19 Church Street, the site of the Harvester restaurant which closed earlier in June.

Head of Steam has asked the council for permission to sell alcohol from 8am to 1am between Sunday and Thursday, extended until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights.

It is also seeking permission to host enterntainment such as films, live and recorded music, and dance performances in those hours.

Other Head of Steam bars have a wide range of beers, ciders, cocktails and spirits, both locally-sourced and from further afield, on draught and served in bottles and cans.

The Head of Steam in Nottingham has more than 120 beers available.

And menus include a range of British pub classics along with tastes from around the world.

Cardiff council is accepting comments on the application in writing until July 3.

Representations can be made via email to licensing@cardiff.gov.uk

The plans come as Cardiff’s Crafty Devil brewery has taken over the Small Bar site next door to the former Harvester.

As previously reported in the Echo, Small Bar, which opened in October 2016, revealed last month that it was leaving the premises and much-anticipated Beelzebubs would be taking its place.

The brewery moved into the site on Friday.
