Merthyr look to get back on the pitch against Weymouth

-

MERTHYR Town welcome Weymouth to Penydarren Park this evening (7.45pm) for the first two meetings between the clubs over the next 11 days.

The Martyrs were once again left frustrated by the weather last Saturday as their scheduled Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division South trip to Beaconsfield Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

That trip to Buckinghamshire has now been rearranged for Tuesday, March 19, at 7.45pm.

It was the second weekend in succession Merthyr had their game called off after snow scuppered the home game with Dorchester Town on February 2 and will now be played on Tuesday, March 12, at 7.45pm.

The original home fixture with Weymouth was postponed on December 18 due to the Terras’ FA Trophy commitments.

A win for Gavin Williams’ side, currently eighth, could see them edge closer to top five. They are currently three points behind Poole Town, who occupy the last play-off spot and themselves host Tiverton this evening.

They will entertain a Weymouth side third in table and six points behind leaders Taunton with two games in hand.

The Terras were involved in a thrilling 4-4 draw at Met Police on Saturday, where they led on four separate occasions but were pegged back each time. Brandon Goodship scored a hat-trick, including one from the penalty spot.

Cameron Murray looked to have won it on 86 minutes, only for Met Police’s own hat-trick hero Luke Robertson to deny them all three points at the death.

Merthyr, who were last in action on January 26 when they drew 2-2 at Tiverton, then host Hendon on Saturday before a trip to Dorset for the return clash with Weymouth on February 23.
