Golden evening at Greenbank High
OLYMPIC hockey Gold medallist Susannah Townsend was guest of honour at the Greenbank High School Sports Awards Evening.
Susannah gave an inspirational speech after reliving the winning moments from the 2016 final in Rio with the audience of parents and pupils – and then presented medals and awards to pupils and teams from an incredible array of sports in which Greenbank has excelled this year.
Prizes were given to teams, individuals and awards for leadership.
They also celebrated the efforts of pupils who they support as a school – such as an English national gymnastic champion and their junior and intermediate swimming teams who recently competed at the English Schools Swimming Association finals at The London Aquatic Centre.
Ian Raikes, the head teacher, said: “We are so proud of all the achievements of our budding sports women who will maybe emulate Susannah in the future.
“We as a school are so proud of how many girls are involved in extra-curricular and competitive sport and enjoy the many benefits it brings.”
