Stage is set for a perfect panto

Southport Visiter - - Visiter Active -

YOU know the tale - but you don’t know the All Souls version. Bagging award after award, the All Souls Dramatic Club knows how to deal with the pressure of success – just keep topping it.

Each of its famous pantomimes is bigger and better than the last, and each year the pressure mounts, but director Cliff Gilles takes it in his stride and uses the energy to create show-stopping performances which never fail to impress.

Hitting The Atkinson this Thursday ( January 12), All SoulsClub will be bringing its ‘visually stunning’ take on Sleeping Beauty to Southport.

As ever, tickets are selling like hot cakes, with some performances already sold out.

As the club reaches its final rehearsals, Cliff Gilles says the team is raring to go and production is going well.

From a nine-month-old baby to an 85-year-old, Sleeping Beauty has an incredibly inclusive range of performers, and all of them are buzzing to perform.

Combining elements of both classic panto and the All Souls’ inventive and experimental techniques, Sleeping Beauty is set to be another great fairytale with a twist.

Mr Gilles is giving little away, but the audience can expect something more akin to a spectacular music concert, rather than a little local pantomime.

The company is planning on topping the snow that fell in the theatre during its production of Snow White, and the characters who flew across the stage in Peter Pan.

There’s an even bigger card up Mr Gilles’ sleeve, and you’ll have to see the production to find out what it is.

The team has imported an incredible selection of lighting and tech to enhance the show, as well as keeping the humour and wit that audiences have grown to adore.

As Mr Gilles says, there is a fantastic pantomime scene in Southport and the All Souls couldn’t thank The Atkinson staff enough for their help in the productions.

Sleeping Beauty will be running at The Atkinson from today, Thursday January 12, until January 22, 2017.

The show is predicted to be another unmissable night, so don’t hang around, secure your tickets now via phone on 01704 533333, online on www. theatkin or visit the box office on Lord Street - tickets start from £10.
