El­derly pair hurt in ceme­tery car crash

AN el­derly cou­ple were taken to South­port hos­pi­tal af­ter their car over­turned at South­port Cre­ma­to­rium.

The fe­male pas­sen­ger had to be res­cued from the car by fire­fight­ers when she was left trapped in the ve­hi­cle.

Both the pas­sen­ger and the male driver were then taken to the Town Lane hos­pi­tal in am­bu­lances.

Nei­ther are be­lieved to have se­ri­ous in­juries, but the woman was left un­con­scious by the crash, shortly be­fore mid­day on Fri­day, Fe­bru­ary 3.

No other ve­hi­cles were in­volved in the in­ci­dent, which hap­pened on the grounds of the South­port Road ceme­tery and cre­ma­to­rium.

A spokesman for Lan­cashire Po­lice said: “We were called at 11.50am to a re­port of a ve­hi­cle over­turned on the grounds of the ceme­tery. There were two peo­ple in the ve­hi­cle, a male driver and a fe­male pas­sen­ger.

“The pas­sen­ger was trapped in the car, but fire fight­ers were able to get her out. There are not thought to be any ma­jor in­juries.”

A Lan­cashire Fire and Res­cue spokesman con­firmed that two fire en­gines at­tended the scene.
