Students’ urban masterpiece transforms graffiti hotspot

-

FOUR art and design students from Southport College have transformed a walkway in King’s Gardens, Southport, into a masterpiece.

Chloe Cassim, Saskia Woollam-Rees, Issy Fisher and Amy McGarry spent two days working on the mural, a project arranged with Sefton Council as part of the ongoing restoration of the seafront gardens.

Kelly Broughton, curriculum leader for art and design, said: “We were asked to paint the mural in an area that is known for being tagged with graffiti.

“We spent two days painting the mural and the feedback from the public has been extremely positive.

“Many stopped to talk to us and commented on how happy they were that something was being done with the area.

“A lot of the public popped back on the second day to see the progress and complimented the girls on their good work.”

As part of the ongoing community project, Southport College art and design students have also been showcasing their work in art boxes placed around the gardens.
