We make our hot choc with a huge 5kg chocolate bar
ANEW venue has opened in Southport where you can order a hot chocolate, and see it be carved from a HUGE bar of chocolate and made fresh to order.
The Cocoa House cafe on Lord Street opened on Friday July 14, and according to the owners, the interest has already been huge.
The business is run by a family from Formby. Glen Harrison, 56, owns the building and business but he had help from his 34-year-old girlfriend Heather Walliscroft, 36-year-old daughter Emma and 34-year-old son Sam.
Sam Harrison said: “Our hot chocolate is probably one of the main things that makes us stand out from other businesses in Southport.
“Our hot chocolate is shaved right from a five kilogram block of 62.5% dark Belgian chocolate with a massive knife, before it is mixed with hot milk to make a delicious drink. Everyone is loving it, we only have half a bar left!”
The venue also offers craft beers from the countries of origin and cocktails that are made from fresh ingredients.
The cafe is open from Monday to Sunday from 10am until 11pm.
However, tonight, Friday and Saturday ( July 20-22) this week, the venue will remain open until midnight as live entertainment will be on from 8pm.
Moving forward, from next week, the venue will be putting on one night of entertainment each week.
There is also a “walled in court yard” at the back of the venue which is currently being refurbished, but it has been predicted that it will open this weekend.
Sam added: “It is a lovely area at the back, it has high walls and ivy and plants in the garden. It will so much better than being sat on the street.
The “relaxed and rugged” venue was designed by the family as a venue they would like to attend, as they saw a “gap in the market.”
Sam said: “Me and my dad used to run The Ship Inn in Haskayne, but we moved on to other things.
“Now we’re all back in the area and it is great to be all back together and doing our own thing.”
