Right royal occasion for village fete

-

CHURCHTOWN Village Church celebrated its 70th Annual Garden Fete and Rose Queen Festival in fitting style.

The parade through the village drew the crowds before a celebration event at the church.

David Link from Churchtown Village Church said: “The garden fete was a big success. We were lucky again with the weather, and the procession was very well received with many people turning out to watch it pass by.

“It was again led by the excellent Hesketh Bank Silver Band, and included a number of visiting Rose Queens and Rose Bud Queens, and Churchtown Warblers, the choir from Churchtown Primary School.

“Rebecca Link was crowned as our Rose Queen for 2017-18 by Hilda Young. Rebecca and Sophie [Wall, last year’s Rose Queen], both gave confident speeches in a very full church.

“During the afternoon there were very popular performances by Churchtown Warblers in the church hall and Hesketh Bank Silver Band in the church.

“The many side stalls were busy and a great time was had by all.

“The garden fete committee would like to thank: everyone who volunteered to look after a stall, steward the procession, donated raffle prizes, made teas or helped out getting the church ready and tidying up afterwards; Hesketh Bank Silver Band and Churchtown Warblers; ZED Photography; and all those who sponsored the event.”
