More rail misery as strikes on
RAIL users in the North West will face more disruption today with strike action by Northern Rail staff.
RMT union workers will go out on strike today, Thursday, and on Saturday, May 26.
The action relates to a long running dispute over plans to introduce driver-only trains to rail networks, losing the train guard role.
RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: “It is a tribute to the determination and professionalism of RMT members on Arriva Rail North that they have remained rock solid for over a year now in what is a battle to put public safety before private profit.”
On the company’s Twitter account, a spokesperson for Northern Rail said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience the action by the RMT Union will cause.
“If you travel and there is a delay of 30 minutes or more to your journey, you are eligible for Delay Repay compensation.
“Season ticket customers who decide not to travel can also claim compensation through the Delay Repay scheme.”
