I took back control and felt better in myself
ASOUTHPORT mum has become a slimming consultant following her transformation.
Sue Kerruish-Jerram has trained as a consultant for Slimming World, after joining as a client in 2017.
The 47-year-old joined the Birkdale group after finding that she was “in a rather unhappy place”.
Sue said: “I had had some awful times. My weight had crept up with comfort eating, and because of my increased weight I was feeling middle-aged and uncomfortable in my clothes – which didn’t help how I already felt.
“I was in a vicious circle of eating because of unhappiness, then gaining weight which made me feel even more unhappy!”
The mother of three wanted to “feel happy again” and decided she was going to take back control of her life.
Sue, who has been a science technician at Southport College for 13 years, said: “I wanted to take back control and feel better about myself again. So, after another morning of dragging the same old loose-fitting stuff out of the wardrobe and complaining to my daughter, I decided enough was enough!”
Her daughter, Gina, recommended joining the Slimming World group and she did as she felt that she had “nothing to lose.”
Sue recalled: “I must admit I did feel nervous driving to the venue, however, I immediately felt reassured and welcomed.
“As I sat in [the] group, I realised the other thing that made Slimming World so special was the monumental amount of support that the members gave each other. This was, in addition to the motivation, support and guidance given by the consultant.
“Everyone was made to feel that they weren’t alone – which is something that can make you give up dieting. I loved it.”
Sue, from Churchtown, followed the Slimming World diet plan and lost 17lbs in nine months – leaving her at her target weight.
She said: “It was fantastic. I fitted into clothes that I wanted to wear and my confidence returned.
“I increased my activity to incorporate yoga and general cardio so I felt physically fitter and my general aches and pains were gone. Some people may want to lose a lot, and some members like me, just want to lose a smaller amount, and the plan still works just as well – I see it happening at my group all the time.
“Unhappy is unhappy, and I want to help other people reach their happy weight.”
Sue began the five months of training to be a Slimming World consultant herself in February and is now set to run a group every Tuesday evening at 5.30pm at Kew Church on Folkestone Road, in Southport.
