Man on rob­bery charge af­ter Flan­nels raid

A MAN will ap­pear at Liver­pool Crown Court later this month fol­low­ing a rob­bery at a high-end fash­ion store in South­port town cen­tre.

Po­lice de­scended on the store on Tulketh Street at around 3.15pm on Tues­day, May 29, fol­low­ing re­ports that a man had en­tered the shop with what ap­peared to be a gun and stolen items be­fore run­ning off.

The suspect then drove off from the scene in a black Ford Fi­esta Zetec, head­ing down Wes­ley Street in South­port town cen­tre.

Of­fi­cers fol­lowed the Fi­esta which was then aban­doned af­ter crash­ing into the wall of a house in Lady Green Lane, in the Ince Blun­dell area. A man was ar­rested fol­low­ing a brief chase on foot.

Tadiwa Ian Chi­hota, of Clovelly Road, An­field, Liver­pool, was ar­rested in re­la­tion to the in­ci­dent and charged with rob­bery, pos­ses­sion of an imitation firearm with in­tent to cause fear of violence, dan­ger­ous driv­ing, han­dling stolen goods and pos­ses­sion of cannabis.

The 20 year-old, from An­field, made a first ap­pear­ance at Liver­pool Mag­is­trates Court on Thurs­day, May 31. He is now due to ap­pear at Crown Court on Thurs­day, May 28.

Grant Tin­dell, the owner of Flan­nels, said that staff were hugely grate­ful to cus­tomers, col­leagues, friends and fam­ily for their mes­sages of sup­port af­ter the in­ci­dent.
