Man on robbery charge after Flannels raid
A MAN will appear at Liverpool Crown Court later this month following a robbery at a high-end fashion store in Southport town centre.
Police descended on the store on Tulketh Street at around 3.15pm on Tuesday, May 29, following reports that a man had entered the shop with what appeared to be a gun and stolen items before running off.
The suspect then drove off from the scene in a black Ford Fiesta Zetec, heading down Wesley Street in Southport town centre.
Officers followed the Fiesta which was then abandoned after crashing into the wall of a house in Lady Green Lane, in the Ince Blundell area. A man was arrested following a brief chase on foot.
Tadiwa Ian Chihota, of Clovelly Road, Anfield, Liverpool, was arrested in relation to the incident and charged with robbery, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, dangerous driving, handling stolen goods and possession of cannabis.
The 20 year-old, from Anfield, made a first appearance at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Thursday, May 31. He is now due to appear at Crown Court on Thursday, May 28.
Grant Tindell, the owner of Flannels, said that staff were hugely grateful to customers, colleagues, friends and family for their messages of support after the incident.
