Maghull in majestic form as Caldy’s unbeaten record cracks
MAGHULL put an abrupt stop to the league’s only 100% record, winning by 56 runs at home to Caldy.
A stand of 77 between Josh Mahoney and Anthony Molloy lifted the hosts to 190/8, before Mahoney took centre stage with the ball, snaffling 6/31 to leave the Division Two leaders well short.
Sutton are having no trouble adapting to life back in the Comp after promotion last season. They beat Old Xavs by four wickets thanks to an impressive run chase, anchored by Adam Onion with 55. Earlier, skipper Ian Carroll top-scored with 49 in Xavs’ total of 193/9.
Spring View batted out the draw in a rain-delayed game at Hightown St Mary’s. Half-centuries from Zayden Schadenorf and Muhammad Adil Zeb set up a total of 195/8 – Jim Kelly had time to take 5/37 in View’s reply, but the visitors closed on 155/7, leaving St Mary’s still waiting on their first win of 2018. Northop Hall’s Daniel Clubbe took 7/21 in the Welshmen’s dominant win over Parkfield Liscard. Their pursuit of 72 was far from straightfor- ward on a low-scoring day, but they made it home with four wickets to spare.
Alder are still bottom, with six defeats from six, after St Helens Town successfully chased 125 with three wickets to spare.
