Sparkling night of fire­works and mu­sic

THE skies above South­port will ex­plode in time to mu­sic when the 2018 Bri­tish Mu­si­cal Fire­works Cham­pi­onships takes place this week­end.

Seven amaz­ing py­rotech­nics com­pa­nies will go head to head over three nights as the an­nual fire­works con­test re­turns to Vic­to­ria Park from this Fri­day un­til Sun­day (Septem­ber 28-30).

Lo­cal bands will play a preshow gig on each night.

Gates open at 6pm, with bands per­form­ing from 7pm and fire­works dis­plays due to start at 8pm.

Cllr Mar­ion Atkin­son, Sefton Coun­cil’s cab­i­net mem­ber re­gen­er­a­tion and skills, said: “Crowds from all over the North West at­tend and ticket sales have yet again been very strong.

“If you are think­ing of go­ing please try and get tick­ets in ad­vance to avoid miss­ing out.”

Mean­while, Mersey­side po­lice are warn­ing peo­ple to be­ware of road clo­sures sur­round­ing the event.

A spokesman said: “This event is one of the big­gest that takes place in South­port, with peo­ple trav­el­ling into the town from Lan­cashire and else­where in Mersey­side and is ex­pected to at­tract up to 10,000 peo­ple each night.

“Plan­ning has started al­ready, with the plac­ing of signs ad­vis­ing of road clo­sures on the evenings in ques­tion along from Lord Street to the Es­planade round­about with Ma­rine Drive and on Ma­rine Drive it­self up to Weld Road.

“The clo­sures will be in place from 6pm to mid­night.”
