Sparkling night of fireworks and music
THE skies above Southport will explode in time to music when the 2018 British Musical Fireworks Championships takes place this weekend.
Seven amazing pyrotechnics companies will go head to head over three nights as the annual fireworks contest returns to Victoria Park from this Friday until Sunday (September 28-30).
Local bands will play a preshow gig on each night.
Gates open at 6pm, with bands performing from 7pm and fireworks displays due to start at 8pm.
Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council’s cabinet member regeneration and skills, said: “Crowds from all over the North West attend and ticket sales have yet again been very strong.
“If you are thinking of going please try and get tickets in advance to avoid missing out.”
Tickets start from £5.50. For further details and to book visit www.visitsouthport.com
Meanwhile, Merseyside police are warning people to beware of road closures surrounding the event.
A spokesman said: “This event is one of the biggest that takes place in Southport, with people travelling into the town from Lancashire and elsewhere in Merseyside and is expected to attract up to 10,000 people each night.
“Planning has started already, with the placing of signs advising of road closures on the evenings in question along from Lord Street to the Esplanade roundabout with Marine Drive and on Marine Drive itself up to Weld Road.
“The closures will be in place from 6pm to midnight.”
