Now visit your GP on any day of the week
RESIDENTS of Southport and Formby will have seven-day access to GP appointments for the first time from Monday.
Those registered to any surgery in Southport or Formby can also book appointments until 8pm on weekdays under the new system, being launched by the GPs’ federation known as Southport and Formby Health.
Patients will be able to book into the seven-day access appointments by contacting reception at their own GP surgery. The extended hours service is designed to replicate a normal GP service, meaning patients can also book appointments with nurses, physiotherapists and health care assistants.
Extended hours are designed to give more flexibility to patients, as well as easing pressure on GP surgeries.
Medical director for Southport and Formby Health, Dr Abdul Zubairu, said: “This is a national policy which means the CCG has a local mandate to offer seven-day access for all patients from Southport and Formby.
“Other areas have already started doing this for a couple of years now, so Southport and Formby has been a little behind the curve.
“The benefit for patients are better access to doctors, nurses and health care assistants, at more accessible times around work commitments.”
The service is designed to operate 365 days a year, meaning GPs will also be available on Bank Holidays and Christmas Day.
Seven-day access hours are for anyone from any surgery and are available 5-8pm on weekends and 9am-12pm on weekends.
Those appointments will not be at patients’ usual practice, but instead at the Family Surgery on Liverpool Road, Birkdale.
Doctors will now be available for appointments on seven days a week
