LORD John Prescott was in town recently to address a Southport Labour Party campaign meeting at the Prince of Wales Hotel on Lord Street.

In a rousing speech the deputy leader of the Labour Party praised the local party’s success in recent elections when Janis Blackburne and Mhairi Doyle historically won seats on Sefton Council for Kew and Norwood wards respectively.

John Prescott was the Labour Party candidate in Southport in 1966 and has fond memories of the town. He has followed elections here closely and he welcomed the success of Liz Savage, the Labour Party candidate in the 2017 General Election, who knocked the Liberal Democrats into third place as the seat was won by Conservative Damien Moore.
