RECYCLING centres in Sefton have switched to shorter winter opening hours.

As of Monday the they are open 8am-5pm – changing from the summer hours of 8am-8pm.

The recycling centres are provided by Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (MRWA) and operated by resource management company Veolia.

The Sefton Centres are located at:

Formby – Altcar Road, Formby.

Sefton Meadows – Sefton Lane, Maghull.

Southport – Foul Lane, Scarisbrick New Road.

South Sefton – Irlam Road, Bootle.

Carl Beer, chief executive of MRWA, said: “We shorten the hours over the winter to coincide with the darker nights over the forthcoming months. “Householders can use the centres to recycle a host of items – from cans, car batteries and cardboard to garden waste, large plastics, scrap metal, textiles and timber, and more.”

Anyone who is planning to visit a recycling centre in a van or with a long trailer will need a permit to get in.
