Re­funds of­fered for can­celled dis­plays

SEFTON Coun­cil has re­vealed re­fund de­tails for peo­ple who at­tended the aborted third night of the British Mu­si­cal Fire­works Cham­pi­onship in South­port.

Thou­sands of vis­i­tors en­joyed stun­ning dis­plays at Vic­to­ria Park over two nights on Fri­day and Satur­day, Septem­ber 28 and 29, which were com­pletely sold out.

This year’s ti­tle was won by Il­lu­sion Fire­works Ltd, from Ox­ford­shire, the third to fire on Satur­day.

But on Sun­day, or­gan­is­ers took the dif­fi­cult de­ci­sion to stop the event as the first team, Rain­bow Fire­works, was near­ing its fi­nale.

And Dis­tant Thun­der Fire­works, which was to per­form the fi­nal show of the night, never got the chance to fire.

A spokesman for Sefton Coun­cil’s tourism team said: “Thank you for your pa­tience whilst we or­gan­ised a re­fund process.

“Due to the weather con­di­tions dur­ing the first dis­play on Sun­day, Septem­ber 30 we made the de­ci­sion to stop the dis­play and can­cel the rest of the event. This was very dis­heart­en­ing for every­body in­volved.

“We would like to say a spe­cial thanks to Rain­bow Fire­works, who gave us a fan­tas­tic show, but sadly had to cut it short by two min­utes, and Dis­tant Thun­der Fire­works who not only spent the en­tire year plan­ning their show, but also the en­tire day set­ting up it up and most of the night (into the small hours) tak­ing it down.

“It is un­for­tu­nately a risk with the na­ture of this event but dis­heart­en­ing all the same.

“We tried our best to give you a great evening and we hope you en­joyed the show you saw, but the weather had other ideas.

Any­one who bought tick­ets for Sun­day on­line should email tourism@ sefton.gov.uk if they wish to re­ceive a re­fund.

In­clude your full name and email ad­dress (at the time of book­ing) and ticket ref­er­ence num­ber.

Any­one who bought a ticket on the gate will need to send their tick­ets back to: Tourism De­part­ment Sefton Coun­cil, South­port Town Hall, Lord Street, South­port, PR8 1DA.

You will need to in­clude your full name, ad­dress and email ad­dress for the re­fund to be pro­cessed.

The clos­ing date to ap­ply for re­funds is Novem­ber 7 and all re­funds will be is­sued within 30 days of this date.
