TRUSTEES of Hesketh Bank Community Centre are celebrating an Awards for All grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

The grant, just under £10,000, helps the aim of becoming a community hub.

Steve Kirby, who chairs the volunteer group of six, said: “This is a great achievement and gives a real boost to our plans.”

The first thing they have bought is much needed tables.

Sue Ellis said: “We have greatly increased the number of groups using the centre and as a result have been struggling with not enough tables.

“These new tables will mean that we don’t have to keep moving furniture between halls on the site and improvising with pasting tables.”

The next thing on their list is fitting new vanity units in the ladies toilets.

The units were donated last year by Kevin Pointon and the money will pay for installation.

Steve said: “Receiving this award is a mark of quality of the work we are doing in the community.”
