‘The crystals work together in harmony’

Crystal grids may look like works of art, but they do an awful lot more than simply look pretty. These carefully constructed patterns of stones can add sparkle to your world in a tangible and transformative way. If you’ve been feeling stuck in your life and yearn to create a new path for yourself, crystal grids can help you do this.

By arranging crystals in a geometric pattern with a specific focus and intent, such as launching a new career, you’ll be able to amplify your intention to bring about positive change in your life. The crystals work in harmony together as a ‘team’ and their collective energy is far more powerful than just one crystal working alone.

World-renowned crystal healer Philip Permutt has been using crystal grids for decades for healing and to make positive lifestyle changes in his own life, and the lives of his clients and students. He says anyone can make one of these gemstone networks to use as a tool of empowerment and has written The Book of Crystal Grids to share his extensive know-how.

‘Crystals are renowned as being natural physical healers, but they can also affect how

we feel emotionally and our responses to the world around us,’ explains Philip.

‘A simple but very effective way to harness this power is to make a crystal grid, using as few as five crystals. The process of laying down the stones can help you find focus and shine a light on a situation when you’ve hit a brick wall and can't see a way forward. They can help you work out what you really want and to see what you can do to reach your goals.’

Philip uses crystal grids in his daily practice and says the results are impressive – and speedy!

‘I have a crystal grid set up on my desk to help me harness creativity in my work. The central stone is a citrine ball (a great stone to encourage success) while the stones around it are smaller citrines. The other day I charged it up by directing energy into it by mo ving my master quartz crystal (a large pointed crystal used to amplify energy) in a clockwise direction around each citrine. The next day, I was commissioned to write this crystal grid feature for Spirit & Destiny – and my publisher also got in touch to discuss a book idea I’d sent them a while ago.’

Join the movement

Right now, more of us than ever are keen to learn how to use crystals to benefit our lives, and, as interest grows, people are wanting to find new and even more effective ways to use crystal energy. You only have to look on Pinterest to find boards devoted to crystal grids. But while they may be on trend right now, their use goes back millennia.

‘Crystal grids have long been used in feng shui to encourage harmony and wellbeing,’

says Philip. ‘One of the oldest references to their use comes from The Book of Exodus and mentions The High Priest of the Israelites, who wore a square breastplate studded with a network of 12 crystals.

'More recently, in the late ‘90s, two World Peace Crystal Grids were placed at the North and South Pole with the intention of uniting the people of the earth and promoting healing energies. They are made of copper and each have a focus stone in the centre, surrounded by twelve quartz crystals.’

The fact that crystal grids have been a part of global culture for so long gives this spiritual tool plenty of gravitas. These networks might be trending right now but they’re not just a flash in the pan. Once you’ve experimented with making them and have felt the benefit of the results, you’ll be hooked. There are endless combinations of grids you can make, here are a few to get you started.

STEP 1:

Choose your purpose

The first thing you need to do when setting up your own crystal grid is to be clear about what you want to achieve and how you want to go about making it happen.

‘Begin by jotting down some thoughts in a journal,’ says Philip. ‘What do you want? What difficulties do you face? Some people like to create a chant or affirmation to say as they create their crystal grid, or you might like to write an affirmation down on a piece of paper to place under the central focus stone. If you are

looking for love, it might be something as simple as ‘love, love, love!’ Or you could use a short positive affirmation, such as: ‘My life is wonderful and fulfilling’.

STEP 2:

Select your crystal

The gemstones you choose to work with can help you achieve your goals, so be mindful when picking colours and shapes.

RED = Passion, positivity, survival

ORANGE = Energy, creativity, fertility YELLOW = Happiness, prosperity, wisdom GREEN = Emotions, growth, new beginnings BLUE = Communication, truth

INDIGO = Intuition, spirit, meditation VIOLET = Spirituality, mystery.

ANIMALS = To connect you to a pet, animal totem, spirit animal; bring about movement

EGG = Birth, creation, new beginning or start of a project

HEART = Love, relationships, emotion

POINT = focus, direction, positivity

PYRAMID = energy fields, healing meditation

SPHERE = wholeness, completion, the world

STEP 3: Deciding on your grid shape

The shape of the grid you choose to make is also key to helping you achieve your purpose. A spiral can boost creativity, a square can help focus your mind and bring about fair outcomes, while a triangle can be used to harness strength and physical ability. Alternatively, you can use any shape that has meaning to you.

You can draw the grid on a piece of paper or piece of wood, or if you intend to experiment with more complicated designs, you can buy purpose-built wooden or copper templates from spiritual stockists (see crystalhealer.co.uk). It’s a good idea to place your finished grid in a place where it won’t be disturbed, or on a tray that can be stored away when not in use.

STEP 4:

Laying the stones

Now it’s time to position your chosen crystals on your grid shape.

‘Like a hive of bees, each crystal has a different role,’ explains Philip. ‘All grids need a FOCUS STONE, which sits at the centre – a bit like a queen bee. Working in a clockwise direction, place a minimum of four crystals around the focus stone. You can think of these surrounding crystals as worker bees, but instead of looking out for the queen, they are teaming up to help you reach your goal. You can add as many ‘rings’ of crystals around the focus stone as you wish.

'Next you need to add what are known as ‘amplifier crystals’. These should be ‘crystal points’ so called because of their elongated shape

and pointed end. Amplifier crystals encourage the flow of energy around the crystals on the grid and back to the focus stone.

'You don’t need a large collection of crystals to place on your grid, as few as five can effectively achieve your aim. Your intention and connection to your crystals is the most important thing.

'Be creative, play around with them and see what feels right to you.’

STEP 5

Activate the grid

Once you’ve arranged your chosen stones, the final step is activating the grid, to ‘switch on’ the crystal energy. To do this you will need a special

crystal point which is known as a ‘master crystal’. These are available in specialist shops or online for between £20-30.

‘First, clear your mind of all distracting thoughts and focus solely on activating your grid,’ says Philip. ‘To do this, hold your master crystal about 5cm above the focus stone and start to move it slowly in a small clockwise circle whilst chanting your positive affirmation.

When you become aware of an energy change in the master crystal, move on to each of the other crystals one by one in the grid. You may feel the master crystal heating up or cooling down or the energy becoming lighter or heavier. Each crystal should take less than two minutes to activate. After activating each one, come back to your focus stone before moving on to the next, until every crystal has been activated.
