‘Spirit showed me the sister I never knew I had’
David Drew discovered not just a mysterious family secret but the psychic destiny that awaited him too
The mysterious family secret that guided psychic medium David Drew to his life's work connecting with spirit
‘Passing on messages is my
It was a cold night in November and my older brother Tim, and I were fast asleep in bed. At least I had been, until he rolled over taking the blanket with him. I reached out and yanked it back.
Our mum Joan, 40, was on a night shift scrubbing floors at the local hospital. She’d had to work all hours since our dad Arthur, 42, died from a heart attack two years earlier when we were just eight and six.
Rubbing my freezing cold feet together, I wriggled further down under the blanket.
Suddenly a gust of wind swept across the bed and the room was lit up by a silvery glow. I blinked. At the foot of the bed stood a woman with piercing blue eyes and white blonde hair. She looked about 20 years old.
Tim was out cold and snoring beside me, oblivious to it all.
‘I’m Patricia – your sister,’ she whispered. I shook my head. ‘No. My sisters are called Helen and Annette. They’re asleep next door.’
The woman smiled knowingly, then the room fell into darkness and she vanished.
Thinking I must be dreaming, I huddled down and went back to sleep.
A secret revealed
The next morning, I told Mum all about my visitor, Patricia. I don’t know what I expected her to say, but I didn’t expect the colour to drain from her face and for her to burst into tears.
Shocked, Tim ushered me out of the house. Neither of us had seen Mum this upset before, not even when Dad died. I felt terrible and couldn’t understand why she'd reacted that way.
When we got home from school, Mum said she had something to tell us.
‘Twenty-one years ago, my first child was stillborn. We had a small naming ceremony then held a funeral service.’
She took a deep breath and carried on: ‘We christened her Patricia.’
My heart leapt. The woman was telling the truth! We had a sister we never knew about and she’d come to visit me!
But Mum refused to talk about it again.
Discovering my gift
Every night I wondered if Patricia would appear but she didn’t. Then one day, four years later, Mum said there was a woman I should meet.
She took me to the house of an old lady called Nelly Woolly and told me she was president of the local Spiritualist church. I didn’t know what she was talking about, but Nelly explained she could see people no one else could, just like me. ‘It’s a gift, I can help you,’ she said.
Suddenly, I felt a cold wind blow through the room and very briefly it was bathed in a silvery light, just like the night I’d met Patricia. I was convinced it was my sister sending me a sign that she approved.
From then on, I visited Nelly every night after school and she invited me to attend her séances to practice connecting with Spirit.
When I was 14, I nervously held my first session at Nelly’s Spiritualist church. As I passed on messages from Spirit, I felt that familiar cold wind around me and saw the shimmering light. My sister had come to support me! My nerves disappeared and from that day I didn’t look back – my career as a psychic medium was launched.
Now, at the age of 62, I’ve done readings and spiritual healing for people all over the world including several celebrities.
Passing on spirit messages has been my life’s work and I know Patricia has been with me every step of the way. I shall be forever grateful to her for leading me to my calling.
