RUNES ARE ‘squiggly’ symbols from an ancient Germanic alphabet that dates back to around 150 AD. First used as an oracle by the Norse people of Scandinavia, who would read them huddled round their fires, they are still a popular divination tool today, and are perfect for fortune telling.

But did you know one of their less common uses is as a tool for speaking directly to the spirit world?

Made from a variety of materials, including wood, crystals, bone, and even metal, rune stone sets are easy to get hold of for under £20 (try holisticshop.co.uk) and the individual rune meanings can be found online or in the booklet most sets come with.

Rune expert and spiritual teacher Ann O’Keife says: ‘Runes are a powerful tool. They’re a great way to help you make sense of your past, present and future and the beauty of them is you can do instant readings for yourself, anytime, anywhere.’ Below are simple rune techniques for every ability.
