Common characteristics of near-death experiences
OUT-OF-BODY: The dying often have the sensation of rising up and floating above their body and being able to see the medical team working to save their life.
THE LIFE REVIEW: People report reviewing or re-living their lives in a matter of seconds and sometimes they can see how their actions impacted on others.
THE TUNNEL EXPERIENCE: Some people report going through a dark tunnel towards a bright light.
ENCOUNTERING OTHERS: Some recall meeting dead relatives and friends, a religious figure, angels or higher beings.
BARRIERS OR A POINT OF NO RETURN: Often there is a barrier, gate or doorway and people know that, if they cross it, they won’t survive their brush with death.
PEACE AND CALM: While someone is dying they may be in intense pain but as soon as they leave their body and experience an NDE, the pain vanishes and they're peaceful.
BEAUTIFUL GARDENS: Many NDErs remember entering a beautiful garden with lush green grass and a stream or river.
TELEPATHY: Some people report communicating with others during their NDE through thought transference.
RELUCTANCE TO RETURN: There are some who, during their NDE, are so comfortable and happy with where they find themselves that they don’t want to return. Dead friends and relatives often tell them it’s not their time to die and to turn back.
