colouring books, the latest way to ease your worries and lift your spirits is the ancient art of calligraphy.

Calm Calligraphy (£9.99, Bluebird) is a new book by master Italian calligrapher Màlleus and aims to teach you how the art of the Scriptorium – copying letters, words and phrases – can help you to focus your thoughts, relax your mind and get your creative juices flowing.

‘The rigour and constancy required for learning to write are the same as those that enable you to silence your mind and approach your own spiritual side,’ says Màlleus. ‘For me, writing is a way to listen to my soul, just like meditating.’

In the book, Màlleus runs through how to find bliss while you write, including advice on how to create a sacred space, connect emotionally to what you are doing and lose yourself in the flow of your writing.

Finally, you will learn how to pen the alphabet in a beautiful, cursive hand before moving onto affirmations such as ‘silence is a gift’ and ‘allow yourself to change’.

‘The first steps will be uncertain, the first letters distorted, but even if only for a few seconds your thoughts will fall silent,’ adds Màlleus.
