Sport Diver - - 100 Dives to do before you die -

If you want to get close to great white sharks, then the Farallon Islands, which lie some 30 miles west of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, are the place to go. In the autumn, thousands of marine mammals congregate on this remote rocky outcropping to breed and give birth, and this in turn attracts the attention of some of the largest great whites around. South East Farallon Island is a hotspot for great white activity, as the elephant seals that live on it provide a great food source, and just witnessing a successful attack from the deck of the dive boat is an awesome experience, but to get the full effect of the size of these sharks, you need to be in the water, and several companies offer cage diving in the Farallons so you can get an eye-to-eye view.
