Sport Diver - - Bahama Bash 2016 -

Eight readers embarked on this epic adventure with Editor Mark Evans and longtime Sport Diver photojournalist Stuart Philpott.

CARON WARNER – The Aqua Cat - best liveaboard I have encountered and the largest so far, from spacious dive deck to very comfy beds. Staff were great and I don’t think I have ever seen such an involved Captain, if he wasn’t on the dive deck during dives he was in the water helping people with their gear (couple of choppy dives). Diving was great, the Washing Machine was fun, but the shark dive with Stuart Cove’s has to be my favourite.

BRAD GEHRT – What makes for a perfect dive trip? Sharks, up close and personal. Awesome people. A beautiful boat. Striving to improve on photography. Did I mention sharks? Lots of them. 32 dives in eight days. Living the dream! The Bahamas Bash filled every expectation I could have had! Thanks for the memories. Are you ready to go again?

MOBINA SALAHUDDIN – I have converted! What an amazing trip which exceeded all of my expectations! It was my first liveaboard and I simply could not have expected this amount of fun and magic across all dimensions. The crew, the people, the dives, the sharks (OMG!!!), the food, the fun… and most of all how much I advanced my diving skills. Thank you!

ZEYNEP ERSOZ – Zeynep is now off travelling around the world for a year, and is currently enjoying some sun, sea and sand in Costa Rica. We wish her the best of luck, and we’re not jealous – much!

CHRIS BROWN – It’s not until you spend some time with photography enthusiasts that you realise that you are woefully underequipped. I’m not a photo nut, but having got back from one of the best trips I’ve ever been on, and having seen what can be done with the right kit, I felt I had to invest in a proper strobe.

PETER AND AMANDA RAYNER – An awesome trip organised by Mark Evans. A week on the efficient Aqua Cat following an itinerary of spectacular dive sites and shark encounters around the Exumas and Eleuthera plus two days out of Nassau with Stuart Cove’s. A funpacked week with a great group, supplemented by Stuart Philpott’s informative and helpful underwater photography course, including tailored sessions.

LINDA FAUX – I’ve been relying on that old technique of ‘button twiddling’ to take pictures, never quite sure whether I’d get a photo or not. Thanks to Stuart’s patience and one-to-one sessions I’ve finally nailed it... I’m taking photos! I’m getting pretty pleasing shots and I really understand the technical stuff, too. The whole workshop team generously shared their time and knowledge, making me as welcome as if I were an old friend. No stuffy classrooms for us.... just bespoke tuition, great presentations and lots of wonderful dives to practice, practice, practice! Wow, what a different approach I’ll take now with my unsuspecting future buddy ‘models’ - composition from a professional, artistic and commercial perspective and my camera set-up perfectly for handling everything the ocean has to offer.
