Sauber, the cash-strapped For­mula 1 motor rac­ing team, re­ceived a much-need fi­nan­cial boost af­ter an­nounc­ing a part­ner­ship with three Rus­sian in­sti­tu­tions that should enable it to re­main on the grid next sea­son. The Switzer­land-based team formed a part­ner­ship with the In­vest­ment Co­op­er­a­tion In­ter­na­tional Fund, the State Fund of De­vel­op­ment of the North-West Rus­sian Fed­er­a­tion and the Na­tional In­sti­tute of Aviation Tech­nolo­gies. The tie-up in­cludes ac­tiv­i­ties to pro­mote the in­au­gu­ral Rus­sian Grand Prix in Sochi in 2014 and motor rac­ing to young peo­ple in the coun­try. In ad­di­tion, a de­vel­op­ment pro­gramme has been put in place that will enable 17-year-old Rus­sian driver Sergey Sirotkin to join Sauber next year.
