The United States Ten­nis As­so­ci­a­tion an­nounced that the Arthur Ashe Sta­dium, the show court of the Bil­lie Jean King Na­tional Ten­nis Cen­ter in Queens, New York, and the ad­ja­cent Louis Arm­strong Sta­dium will have re­tractable roofs in­stalled af­ter a suc­ces­sion of rain de­lays in re­cent years ham­pered the an­nual US Open, which is played there. The Arthur Ashe Sta­dium is the largest arena in ten­nis, with a ca­pac­ity of 22,500, while the Louis Arm­strong Sta­dium has 15,000 seats. Work on the $550-mil­lion pro­ject is set to be­gin later this year and be com­pleted by 2018 at the lat­est.
