Celebrating 40 years of Sporting Gun

Sporting Gun - - SNAPSHOTS -

Over the last few months I have got phone calls and emails from former contributors and long-time readers. I always enjoy these communications because I learn so much and they give me ideas for the magazine.

For example, Des Mills, who wrote the excellent, and almost prophetic, review of the Lanber Sporter in the April 1987 issue of Sporting Gun got in touch. Now in retirement, he told me how he had enjoyed his time with the magazine and enjoyed reading the latest issue.

Another conversation was on Sporting Gun’s Facebook page. Geoff Bickers, who has bought the magazine from the first issue and is a very accomplished shot, mentioned that he has appeared in the magazine in the past (see his letter on page 10). He sent a few pictures and I was fascinated to see that there was a Sporting Gun Top 20 English Skeet Club badge. This gave me an idea for a special way to celebrate the magazine’s 40th year and so a limited edition badge has been made for every reader.

We are giving them away at the Game Fair at Hatfield House (28 to 30 July) and at the Midland Gamefair at Weston Park (16-17 September). To claim your free pin badge all you have to do is fill in a coupon which will appear in the August issue and bring it to our stand at one of the game fairs. If you miss the coupon, then come to the stand a we will give you a coupon to fill in there.
