The best bunny calibre?

Sporting Gun - - SHOOTING ANSWERS -

I am thinking of applying for a .17 HMR and chopping in my .22. The only thing that concerns me is whether a .17 causes too much damage to the rabbit – or is this down to choice of bullet? I would appreciate your advice.

Edward says: If I’m honest, I don’t use my .22 all that much nowadays but keep it because there are situations where it’s still needed.

That said, the .17 HMR is an awesome tool and I’m grateful to my good friend Mike Powell for introducing me to it all those years ago...

I have used the .17 a lot and, yes, if you shoot a rabbit less than 50 yards away it will be a bit smacked up, but shoot it in the head and it doesn’t matter anyway.

An average range for my shooting is 100 to 120 yards, and at this range they are not that badly damaged. You can experiment with different makes of ammo but I favour the Winchesters over all the others.
