Mighty oaks from lit­tle acorns grow

Hav­ing re­ceived my first air ri­fle at the age of 10, my pas­sion for shoot­ing and the out­doors has grown ever since.

I re­mem­ber stand­ing at the farm on those cold, frosty shoot morn­ings ad­mir­ing the shiny 4x4s, fuss­ing the dogs and long­ing for the day when I was stood with my shiny shot­gun and a dog to call my own.

Twenty-eight years later and I am that man stood there with my shiny 4x4, my spaniel, Char­lie, and a gun over my arm. What’s more, my 10-year-old son has had his first sea­son beat­ing with us this year. Just last week we were stood in the ex­act farm­yard I was stood in 28 years ago – him fuss­ing the dogs with a long­ing look on his face, which I truly recog­nised; from lit­tle acorns…
