County action sees Ashford Ladies on a roll
ASHFORD LADIES got their Middlesex campaign underway in the county double fours against Hurlingham – and they are already on a roll.
The away team of Sally Woodhead, Wendy Bayley, Carol Steadman and Liz Dutton won on the extra end while the home side of Jill Stanton, Brenda Astridge, June Goulds and Marion Bushnell won by 10 shots.
In the next round the ladies took on Hayes, coming through 49-36.
In the county fours, Stanton, Mary Claremont, Bayley and Goulds helped beat Bishop Duppas 21-12.
The ladies also made their debut in the North West Surrey League single rink event, with Stanton, Astridge, Carole Daines and Dutton winning 19-12 against Weybridge.
There were mixed fortunes for the Bowls England Mixed Pairs with Bushnell and Matt Larman winning 22-16 against Sally and Kevin Woodhead of Fordbridge Park.
In the Bowls England Family Pairs, Richard and Rob Hackwell came out on top against Cliff and Ashley Tanner, 18-15.
The Tony Alcock Trophy 60 and overs double rink saw Ashford go down by 10 shots, 28-38, against Bishop Duppas.
Rob Hackwell played for Middlesex in the opening Home Counties League game against Surrey, Middlesex getting off to a great start by winning 132-98 and 20-2 in points.
Middlesex president Ron Searle continued his excellent form when his side recorded their third win of the season against Bedfordshire, with a commanding 134-102 final scoreline.
