County ac­tion sees Ashford Ladies on a roll

ASHFORD LADIES got their Mid­dle­sex cam­paign un­der­way in the county dou­ble fours against Hurling­ham – and they are al­ready on a roll.

The away team of Sally Wood­head, Wendy Bay­ley, Carol Stead­man and Liz Dut­ton won on the ex­tra end while the home side of Jill Stan­ton, Brenda Astridge, June Goulds and Mar­ion Bush­nell won by 10 shots.

In the next round the ladies took on Hayes, com­ing through 49-36.

In the county fours, Stan­ton, Mary Clare­mont, Bay­ley and Goulds helped beat Bishop Dup­pas 21-12.

The ladies also made their de­but in the North West Sur­rey League sin­gle rink event, with Stan­ton, Astridge, Ca­role Daines and Dut­ton win­ning 19-12 against Wey­bridge.

There were mixed for­tunes for the Bowls Eng­land Mixed Pairs with Bush­nell and Matt Lar­man win­ning 22-16 against Sally and Kevin Wood­head of Ford­bridge Park.

In the Bowls Eng­land Fam­ily Pairs, Richard and Rob Hack­well came out on top against Cliff and Ash­ley Tan­ner, 18-15.

The Tony Al­cock Tro­phy 60 and overs dou­ble rink saw Ashford go down by 10 shots, 28-38, against Bishop Dup­pas.

Rob Hack­well played for Mid­dle­sex in the open­ing Home Coun­ties League game against Sur­rey, Mid­dle­sex get­ting off to a great start by win­ning 132-98 and 20-2 in points.

Mid­dle­sex pres­i­dent Ron Searle con­tin­ued his ex­cel­lent form when his side recorded their third win of the sea­son against Bed­ford­shire, with a com­mand­ing 134-102 fi­nal score­line.
