Stan­dards still high at Shep­per­ton show

SHEP­PER­TON Hor­ti­cul­tural As­so­ci­a­tion’s 65th An­nual Sum­mer Show was held re­cently with ex­hibitors show­ing an ar­ray of beau­ti­ful flow­ers and volup­tuous pro­duce.

Al­though en­tries were slightly down this year be­cause of an ad­verse start to the grow­ing sea­son, they were of a very high stan­dard at the event in Shep­per­ton Vil­lage Hall.

Joint show Pauline Nicks sec­re­tary said: “The show at­tracted a steady flow of vis­i­tors, many of whom meet each show for a cup of tea and cake with friends.

“The Sum­mer Show is renowned for the scent of the sweet peas and the roses when you en­ter the hall. The chil­dren put on a splen­did dis­play, with al­most a hun­dred en­tries and we would like to thank the par­ents who brought the en­tries along on Satur­day morn­ing. Hav­ing the chil­dren in­volved is im­por­tant to the vil­lage.

“It was good to see new ex­hibitors win­ning awards and prize tick­ets in their first show and other reg­u­lar ex­hibitors get­ting their first awards.”

She added the as­so­ci­a­tion was very grate­ful to their spon­sors and par­tic­u­larly to Trio Phar­macy, who spon­sor the Sum­mer Show and present the awards.

The group’s next show is on Satur­day Septem­ber 3 and new mem­bers are ex­hibitors are very wel­come.
