A NEW extension at Farnborough Tennis & Table Tennis club has been declared officially open.

It was officially opened by the Mayor of Rushmoor, Cllr Jacqui Vosper, at a ceremony last week.

Fixtures and fittings were donated by local branches of Redrow, Howdens, and Wickes, while a new table tennis table came from a county council community fund of Councillor Mark Staplehurst.

Cllr Vosper said: “I welcome and support the club’s ambitions for more people to be playing tennis and table tennis at the club.

“I also congratulate them for obtaining funding from Sport England and the Lawn Tennis Association for the building and other improvements.

“Rushmoor Borough Council has been fully behind the club’s plans and has also contributed significant funding and other support, as there are many benefits for the community.”

The club supports the community by running table tennis events for youngsters as part of the PEBL ( Prospect Estate Big Leap) initiative and hires the room to the Farnborough Cheerleaders group associated with the football club.

Club chairman, David Hewitt, said: “This is part of an expansion programme to increase the number of people playing sport at the club. This new building will be used for winter mini tennis, table tennis and community use.

“We have also installed new tennis floodlights, so that three of our four courts are now lit.”
