Po­lice warn­ing af­ter shed and garage raids on the same day in Up­ton Grey

RES­I­DENTS in ru­ral Hart are be­ing warned to be on their guard af­ter break- ins at a garage and shed on the same day.

Res­i­dents of re­ported two po­lice.

PC An­drew Reid asked for the public’s help af­ter a large amount of gar­den equip­ment was stolen from a garage, and a lawn­mower from a gar­den shed in the vil­lage.

He said the garage of a house in Up­ton Grey was bro­ken into be­tween 4.45pm and 6.45pm on Satur­day Jan­uary 14. A large amount of gar­den tools and equip­ment were stolen, in­clud­ing three chain­saws, two strim­mers, two leaf­blow­ers and a hedge Up­ton Grey in­ci­dents to trim­mer. The crime ref­er­ence num­ber is 44170017649.

PC Reid said be­tween Jan­uary 11 and 19, but ‘ most likely’ dur­ing the same day as the other crime, a Mount­field lawn­mower was stolen from a gar­den shed in the vil­lage.

PC Reid added: “I am ap­peal­ing for any in­for­ma­tion con­cern­ing ei­ther of these crimes. If you were in Up­ton Grey be­tween these times and saw any­thing un­usual, be it peo­ple, ve­hi­cles etc, please give me a call on 101 or Crimestop­pers on 0800 555111 and quote the above ref­er­ence num­bers.

“All in­for­ma­tion is treated in strictest con­fi­dence.”

PC Reid said that as spring ap­proaches, peo­ple should make sure their out­build­ings are se­cure and that they have good locks and alarms.

“We see an in­crease in gar­den sheds be­ing bro­ken into dur­ing this part of the year and the thefts of gar­den equip­ment,” he added.

“Please record se­rial num­bers, scratch or mark your post­code on the ma­chine, prob­a­bly vis­i­ble so it is more iden­ti­fi­able, and take a pho­to­graph of it just in case it is ever stolen.”
