New drive- through ‘ perilous’ – residents

Star Courier (Surrey & Hants) - - FRONT PAGE -

Drivers in the area have previously raised concerns over the ‘ hideously dangerous’ sharp turn into and out of the coffee chain along the ‘ busy and confusing’ A30.

Now open, it is safe to say that it is not a popular coffee stop- off for locals who claim to witness dan- gerous turns every day, blaming ‘ dismal’ signage and inconvenient location.

Chris Hamilton said: “Every day several vehicles are making a hideously dangerous right turn out of the new Bagshot Costa.

“The road markings are confusing, the bollards look lethal and the parked vehicles in the lay- by obscure the traffic belting down the hill.

“Quite the most perilous drive- through I’ve ever seen.”

He added: “Cars are making illegal and dangerous turns on exit with some taking the wrong turn in.

One mother, who asked not to be named, said: “Several times now I have been driving on the A30 from Camberley towards Bagshot only to have drivers in front me of slam on their brakes from 40mph to attempt to turn into Costa. Each time they’ve mistaken the driveway next to Costa for the entrance and ended up realising their mistake and having to reverse said driveway.

“The signage at the Costa entrance is dismal.”

This view is also shared by county council Green Party candidate for Bagshot, Andrew Willgoss.

He said: “I have witnessed last minute breaking by cars leading to other road users braking and swerving. Also impatient drivers are pulling out in front of cars travelling at around 50mph.”
