“Using this material means the finished roof will retain the striking appearance intended by the building’s original designers.”
The restoration project, which was two years in the planning, began in July and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. It will entirely replace the old, weathered cath- edral roof, which was found to be creating a “significant” risk of water damage.
Mr Bassett added: “Once completed, the new roof will ensure that this historic building remains watertight and preserved for generations to come.”
