SLUG BOY Wins Kelpies

Mark Smith’s de­but work Slug Boy Saves the World has won this year’s Kelpies Prize, which is awarded to chil­dren’s books set in Scot­land. It’s a book about 11-year-old Murdo, who gets su­per pow­ers from a ra­dioac­tive slug. Smith was pre­sented with a £2,000 cash prize from Debi Gliori, il­lus­tra­tor-in-res­i­dence at the Ed­in­burgh In­ter­na­tional Book Fes­ti­val. The prize is or­gan­ised by Floris Books and Cre­ative Scot­land. It has been run­ning since 2005.
