The last available Penrhyn Quarry Railway locomotives exported to the United States and Canada in 1965 are back in the UK. Hunslet 0-4-0ST Nesta and Barclay 0-4-0WT Cegin passed through several hands before being sold for a proposed museum in Puerto Rico, around 1989. They arrived back on home soil in May. It took seven years of hard negotiating to secure Nesta (built in 1899) and Cegin (1931). Photographs show them to be in reasonable condition, although they are missing name and worksplates and some non-ferrous components. Nesta has gone into private storage, while Cegin has joined Graham Lee’s collection at the Statfold Barn Railway, and was a bonus attraction for guests at the June 4 open day.
