Young supporters needed for Stanier ‘Mogul’
It has already planned well ahead to ensure the financial future of its unique LMS 2-6-0 - and now the Stanier Mogul Fund is looking to secure its next generation of supporters with the launch of a young members’ scheme. Anyone under the age of 30 can apply to join for just £10 by purchasing a ‘First of the Finest’ certificate. Members will receive incentives such as subsidised travel on the fund’s special trains, and entry into an annual prize draw for footplate experiences. When they reach 30 years of age, members will be invited to take up full life membership for a monthly standing order of as little as £2. Details of how to apply can be found at www.staniermogulfund.org.uk or via its Facebook and Twitter feeds (@staniermogul). The 83-year-old Stanier ‘Mogul’ is undergoing its third ‘heavy general’ in preservation at the Severn Valley Railway, where it is expected to re-enter service in 2018 - carrying its original 1934 LMS guise as No. 13268 for the first time in preservation. Continued dismantling of the locomotive at Bridgnorth works has involved removal of the cab, pony truck and brake gear, while construction of the new rear dragbox has commenced and new valve chest liners have been installed. In the boiler shop, the firebox foundation ring has been removed, along with most of the stays.
